Amending a Confirmation Statement?
Each year a limited company must file a confirmation statement with Companies House. This is to confirm that the information they hold is still up-to-date.
Confirmation statement amendments are needed if your company information changes between filing dates. You are required to ensure the information that Companies House holds about your company is correct, whether this is due to the company details changing, or in cases where wrong information was accidentally submitted.
Updating Company Information
With respect to amending filings, confirmation statements work slightly differently to amendments for company accounts and CT600 returns.
Since a confirmation statement is essentially an update of company information, rather than accounts figures relating a specific accounting period, the return itself is reissued to replace the company information in the previous return (new confirmation statement submission).
Please note there are also special cases for submitting an amendment, that would replace the original confirmation statement filing, which will be touched on later in the article.
You will be able to update the following information with the new Confirmation Statement filing:
- Update of the company's principal activity (SIC code).Updates with regard to the statement of share capital or status of shares.
- The company's registered email address.
- Any updates with regard to PSC exemptions.
However, there is information that cannot be updated through a confirmation statement filing:
- Company name - if you are looking to change the company registered name, then this instead will need to be done by submitting a NM01 form to Companies House, where the company members must agree to the name change.
- Company registered office address - this process will also require a separate form to be filed; a AD01 form must be submitted to Companies House, with confirmation of the new registered address.
- Persons with significant control.
- Information on company directors and secretaries.
Confirmation Statements are expected to be filed annually, where you will have 14 days (2 weeks) to file from the period date before it's due.
It's not common for companies to move forward the date, however if you are wanting Companies House to reflect the correct and most up to date information, then you would need to move the date to the date of the amendment. This is essentially an "amendment" for the previous filing.
If I Move the Confirmation Statement Date will Future Deadlines be Affected?
Changing the date of the confirmation statement, by moving it to a closer date when updating information, then this will typically affect the future due dates. The next confirmation statement deadline will be one year from the date that you have moved it to.
For example: If your next confirmation date is on the 5th December 2026, but you wish for it to be moved up to the 5th June 2026 (as this is the date you are filing) then the next confirmation statement date will be for the 5th June 2027 and the deadline will be 19th June 2027 (14 days after the date).
Filing an RP04 form - Incorrect Information
In very special cases, a company will be able to file a second filing in order to amend a minor error from the previous submission, in this case a confirmation statement.
The reason for the amendment will need to be due to a very minor error that needs correcting, for example if the company registered address has got a typo in it, so long as the original submission has been considered "properly delivered". If the company complies with the requirements, you will be able to complete and post an RP04 form to Companies House to amend the incorrect details. In the form, you will be able to note the description of the original document and it's changes.
Submitting Through our Software
Confirmation Statement filings are available to purchase and submit through our software! This can also include the moving of submission dates within the templates.
In order to move the confirmation date, which is located in box 4 of the return, forward, then you will need to click on the numbered box itself (4) which will turn red. Then the date in the box will turn from grey to white, allowing you to edit it.

Completing the Confirmation Statement
Once you have amended the date within the template, you can now complete all of the company information and prepare the filing to be submitted.
Please ensure that all company directors have had their identity verified with Companies House in order to submit the confirmation statement. This is a new feature that was implemented and required as of November 2025, so previously you may not have had to verify their identities. There will be a 'Verification Details' page within the template where you can input the director information as well as the verification code that you should have received from Companies House.
Submitting the Amendment and Key Takeaways
Typically, if company information has been updated since the last filing, the company would either wait until their next confirmation statement deadline to revise these details or bring the filing date forward to update this information sooner.
In the case that the information submitted on the confirmation statement filing had errors within it, that need to be changed. Then, if the company meets Companies House's requirements, they will be able to submit the RP04 form as an amendment to the confirmation statement's misinformation.
Company director's have a legal responsibility to make sure that all information submitted to Companies House is correct and up to date, so it will be best to update any inaccuracies on the confirmation statement accordingly.
